VC-54C_The_Sacred_Cow_1948.jpg (598 × 466 pixels, file size: 142 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description Photograph of U.S. President Harry S. Truman's airplane, a Douglas VC-54C Skymaster (s/n 42-107451) nicknamed "The Sacred Cow", shortly after arrival at Boca Chica, near Key West, Florida (USA) on 20 February 1948. The aircraft is today as "42-72252" on display at the National Museum of the USAF. Originally 42-72252 was C-54A-15-DC (c/n 10357/DC88) missing since 11 November 1944 over the South Atlantic. This serial number was used by the VC-54C 42-107451 when it flew President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Yalta Conference in 1945 (probably out of security reasons).
