Summary

Description
English: Info

This file is from the English Wikipedia. It represents the largest uncontroversial linguistic macrofamilies using the colour scheme from w:en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages. (Thus, Japanese and Korean are represented as language isolates/minor language sub-groups, despite various contested theories linking them to other families (probably Altaic family) or each other.)----Wipsenade (talk) 18:40, 25 December 2010 (UTC) Some sub-groups like Ute-Aztec and Japonic also have their own wiki colours, but others don't.Wipsenade (talk) 17:13, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I have added some major sub-groups link Indo-Iranian and Ute-Aztec where pictorially possible. Many isolates were also recognised to.Wipsenade (talk) 11:47, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Due to the lack of sourcing and the inherent imprecision of the Robinson projection, this should be taken as a somewhat impressionistic representation.Wipsenade (talk) 11:47, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

The legend's font is Arial 8.Wipsenade (talk) 11:47, 20 April 2011 (UTC) This map is an upgraded version of the original -File:Human Language Families (wikicolors).png- by w:User:Ishwar.

In upgrading the image I made many changes. Added missed off islands like w:Mayotte, w:Palau and the w:Solomon Islands. Moved the w:Falkland Islands further south. Reversed some of the overzealous hatching of native languages/Indo-European Languages. Made the colours more distinct by darkening some like Tamil/Dravidian and Georgian/Caucasian. Added mostly Indo-European speaking African cities like w:Lagos and w:Dakar. The isolate w:Kuot language was added to w:Papua New Guinea. I added some info from the 'Modern School Atlas (96th edition)', ISBN 978-1-84907-013-3. Tupi language added. Mapudungun language, Araucanian languages, Tsesungún dialect now an isolate's colour.--Wipsenade (talk) 18:34, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
