Summary
[edit]Description | Picture of Wade Guyton's sculptural painting installation Untitled (2020-2021) at Glenstone in Potomac, Maryland, in 2022. Twenty-six paintings lean against a grey stone wall in two separate stacks; only the painting at the front of either stack is fully in view, with the other twenty-four paintings only partly visible where the paintings continue onto the side of the canvas. Each stack rests on two small blocks of wood on the ground. The front painting on the right is an abstracted rendering of a photograph, colored with bright reds and deep blacks against stark whites. The front painting on the left is one of Guyton's signature newsprint paintings, featuring a rendering of the front page of The New York Times website from January 6, 2021 (the day of the January 6 United States Capitol attack), including ads for commercial printers at the top of the painting; the right portion of the image is covered in black squiggled lines that combine to look like a screen masking the right portion of the painting. |
