Celebrations[edit]

All the emirates in the U.A.E have grand celebrations. On 2 December 2012, a street named "Al Diyafah street" was named "2nd December street" . Every year on that street people bring snow sprays and paint sprays in order to celebrate the national day. They spray it on each other and on cars. Many malls in the U.A.E decorate the malls and sell souvenirs and items related to the National day. Schools in the UAE celebrate National Day by holding national events and celebrations where local children will dress up in the cultural "thoub" and "kandoora" and perform the "youlah" and folkloric dances and organize cultural contests.[citation needed] In Abu Dhabi, the country's capital, celebrations are held in the city's Corniche in which people arrive in decorated cars marking the history of the nation. Shops would sell house decorations such as flags, to help show the people's spirit across the country. Every year thousands of UAE residents gather and celebrate the day. Rallies take place and the decorator of the best looking car is awarded 1 million UAE Dirhams.
