Established as the Union Station (smaller than a branch) in 1931 at 9213 Union Avenue, the unit was promoted to "branch" status and moved into a large new building at 9319 Union Avenue in 1939. The current building was constructed in 1982 at a cost of $1.8 million ($4,500,000 in 2016 dollars).
