Summary

Description
English: *Brown: only lethal injection
  • Orange: lethal injection as a primary method; retains secondary methods
  • Green: never used lethal injection
  • Blue: no capital punishment
  • U.S. Military: only lethal injection
  • Federal government: lethal injection as a primary method; retains secondary methods
This is an SVG map of the United States showing which states use lethal injection as a method of execution, as well as which states have no death penalty. Based on information from Death Penalty Factsheet for which states have no death penalty, and from Image:DeathPenalty.png for what method is used in each state. The indicators for Delaware and Maryland may be slightly misleading. Both have used the gas chamber and have since switched over to using lethal injection, but neither has performed an execution using it yet. Nebraska is the only state that has a death penalty and does not have lethal injection as a method of execution—it exclusively uses electrocution. However, on 8 February, 2008, the Nebraska Supreme Court found electrocution to be in violation of the State Constitution. Since Nebraska has no other method of execution, it currently has no method of execution available and the map has been changed to reflect this.
