Summary

Description
English: Gulfport, Miss. (Sept. 21, 2005) - In a joint effort between the U.S. Navy, Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) and other local and national organizations, four of the eight Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins, displaced following Hurricane Katrina, were found and brought to safety at Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC) Gulfport from the coastal waters of Mississippi. IMMS lost contact with dolphins Shelly, Jill, Eli and Tamara the day after the first four dolphins were rescued and brought to NCBC Gulfport. All eight dolphins are now in a facility containing four portable saltwater pools at NCBC Gulfport recovering from injuries sustained when a reported 40-foot wall of water destroyed their home at Marine Life Oceanarium Aug. 29. All eight dolphins will remain at NCBC Gulfport until they've fully recovered and a new home for them is found. U.S. Navy photo by Journalist 3rd Class Chris Gethings (RELEASED)
