Summary

Description The U.S. Navy submarine rescue ship USS Pigeon (ASR-6) in Cam Ranh Bay, Indochina, July 1939. Note the Submarine Force "fish" insignia painted on her bow. Pigeon is anchored in the In the vicinity of where the French submarine Phénix sank on 15 June 1939 with 71 men on board. Phénix submerged during an exercise with a French cruiser but did not return to the surface. After two days, the submarine was presumed lost.
