Halftone reproduction of a photograph published in a contemporary publication. Hand written notes are on the original print, which is mounted on Hippocampus' "SP" data card, and reflect the compensation paid to the boat's owner for her use by the Navy during World War I.
This pleasure craft was acquired by the Navy under lease on 21 June 1917 and placed in commission as USS Hippocampus (SP-654) on 25 June 1917. She was returned to her owner on 5 April 1919.
This craft is now owned by a gentlemen in the Jonesport, Maine area and it is under restoration. (Posted by Bob Grant: bobgrant1@hotmail.com)
