Summary

Description

The US Army Corps of Engineers tug boat Billmaier and the Crane Barge H. J. Schwartz were tied to the breakwater in Two Harbors, MN when I visited. They were planning to be therefor a few days to do some repair work to the stone at the base of the breakwater.

The tug was originally YTB 799, the USS Natchitoches. I love the abbreviation YTB. It stands for "Yard Tug - Big". It was delivered to the US Navy in May of 1969. In 2001 it was decommissioned from the Navy and transferred to the US Army Corps of Engineers. It is currently based in Duluth, MN and travels the Great Lakes, towing a crane barge.
