Description |
English: Trinity House Master's Flag Trinity House Master's Flag made of wool bunting, machine-sewn with the design printed onto the fabric. A rope and toggle are attached for hoisting. Inscribed on the hoist 'Lane and Neeve, 4 Minories, London 1901, Trinity Master's Flag 16 Bds' (16 breadths). On a white field is charged a St George's Cross with a ship in each quarter. The complete arms of Trinity House on a cartouche in the centre. The design seems to have been reversed on this example as the ships should sail toward the hoist. Trinity House is the general lighthouse authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. It is also a pilotage authority and charitable organisation. In modern times the office of Master has been held by a royal prince (it is currently held by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh). In 1901, the Prince of Wales, later George V (1865-1936), was Master of the Corporation. The Corporation has five flags in all: master, deputy master, ensign, jack and burgee. |
