English: A series of diagrams illustrating dental nomenclature of an idealized tribosphenic mammal. Upper left molar in pink, lower left molar in blue. Diagrams on the left side and middle of the image are in left lateral view (facing the teeth from the outside), while diagrams on the right side of the image are in occlusal view (facing the crown of the tooth). Not intended to depict any specific mammal, though Cretaceous-Paleogene placentals were referenced most frequently.
As indicated by the arrow, the leftward direction in the image is mesial (towards the front of the tooth row) in all five diagrams. The upper left molar occlusal view (upper right diagram) has buccal/labial (cheek side) towards the top of the screen, while the lower molar occlusal view (bottom right diagram) has buccal/labial towards the bottom of the screen. |
