After a further request, the copyright holder has re-licensed the image under CC-BY 2.5.
This graph image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.
It is recommended to name the SVG file “Trends in natural disasters.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
This graph image was uploaded in the JPEG format even though it consists of non-photographic data. This information could be stored more efficiently or accurately in the PNG or SVG format. If possible, please upload a PNG or SVG version of this image without compression artifacts, derived from a non-JPEG source (or with existing artifacts removed). After doing so, please tag the JPEG version with {{Superseded|NewImage.ext}} and remove this tag. This tag should not be applied to photographs or scans. If this image is a diagram or other image suitable for vectorisation, please tag this image with {{Convert to SVG}} instead of {{BadJPEG}}. If not suitable for vectorisation, use {{Convert to PNG}}. For more information, see {{BadJPEG}}.

Dear James,
You, and anyone in the wikipedia community, are granted permission to
upload the screen/web resolution graphics to wikipedia and re-publish
them there. Please ensure that a link to the equivalent page on
maps.grida.no is present, as well as full source/reference and credit.
Good luck!
/Hugo

Hi James,
Yes, you may publish the web-resolution bitmap graphics (not the
pdf-files) under the specified Creative Commons license. Please note
that the pages on http://maps.grida.no don't have any limitation in the
licenses for only education and/or non-profit purposes. There are some
text on e.g. This page, under "use constraints":
<http://maps.grida.no/go/graphic/trends_in_natural_disasters>
Is that good enough, or do I need to write up something more formal... ?
:)
/Hugo

|Dear Hugo,
|
|Thank you for the permission you granted in your message below in
|reply to my request to use a maps.grida.no image in Wikipedia were it
|has been for four months now.
|
|I just received this message from another Wikipedia editor: "Hi James!
|I just noticed that :Image:Trends in natural disasters.jpg has
|permission for publication on Wikipedia only. That is not sufficient.
|Wikipedia requires that images not used under fair use are available
|for (even commercial) republication and modification. The two standard
|licenses for this are the GFDL and several Creative Commons variants.
|Please see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Free licenses. Before I
|nominate the image for deletion: Do you want to ask the author for a
|sufficiently liberal license? --Stephan Schulz 09:06, 30 July 2007
|(UTC)"
|
|Since you requested attribution (and as requested I linked to the
|maps.grida.no article in the captions and the image page) I think the
|Creative Commons Attribution license would be most appropriate if you
|agree:
|
|Can you please send a statement to the effect that the image may be
|used under the Creative Commons Attribution license?
|
|Sincerely,
|James Salsman
