Summary

Description One of the first versions of the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States, also the U.S. coat of arms, engraved for the September or October 1786 Columbian Magazine. This is an original interpretation from the written blazon, though it has some similarities to a Continental banknote designed by Francis Hopkinson in the 1770s. This version was used on a centennial medal in 1882.
Date September or October 1786
