Summary

Description
English: A visualization of negative staining (a) and positive staining (b) of samples in transmission electron microscopy. The top row is a side profile of the sample, where for negative staining the whole grid is covered in a mostly uniform layer of stain (gray), and the sample forms a cavity in the stain. In positive staining, the sample itself is stained, with little stain around it. The bottom row shows the resulting image captured on the microscope.
