Summary

Description
English: Burnley War Memorial, Towneley Park, Burnley. Unveiled on 12 December 1926. Towneley Park adjoins Towneley Hall, the historic seat of the Towneley and O'Hagan families and now the property of the Corporation of Burnley. In the form of a cenotaph, the plinth is of granite, the side figures, each about 8 feet high, of bronze, and the cenotaph proper of Portland stone to a height of 20 feet. The cenotaph is plain until near the top where it is sculpted into three figures representing the Navy, Army and Air Force. At each side of the cenotaph is a female figure in bronze by Louis Weingartner. The stonework represents the début of Donald Gilbert, Walter’s talented son. Work arranged and managed by Walter Gilbert. Bronze cast and stone machine-carved by H. H. Martyn of Cheltenham. https://www.scribd.com/doc/17256374/Walter-Gilbert-Main-Inventory https://archive.org/details/WalterGilbert
