Summary

Description
English: The Tour Madeloc (Torre de Madaloc) ridge, Port-Vendres commune, France, seen from the east.

The ridge faces the Mediterranean Sea, and is situated at the eastern end of the Albères massif. (That massif is near the far eastern end of the Pyrenees Mountains Axial Zone, the rocks of which are mostly of Paleozoic and earlier ages.)

The predominant geological formations in this area are lower Cambrian and upper Ediacaran ("Cabrils") metasediments (over 500 Ma), especially schists. However, the Madeloc ridge is situated on a distinctive zone, about 200 metres wide, consisting of fine-grained sandstones of volcanosedimentary origin which are intercalated with thin pelitic layers. This zone is shown on the geological map as GTM ("Grès de la Tour Madeloc").
