Description
English: Ex-SE&CR class B1 4-4-0 at Tonbridge Locomotive Depot.
No. 1021 was a Wainwright rebuild (4/13) of a Stirling Class B 4-4-0 (built 10/1898). In its young days had dashed down to Dover on Continental Boat Expresses, but was now near its demise (in 12/47). Tonbridge was an important junction with extensive freight yards and the Depot had an allocation in 1947 of 64:- 13 4-4-0, 3 2-6-0, 22 0-6-0, 3 0-6-2T, 4 0-6-0T and 18 0-4-4T.
