Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8)	It will demonstrate exactly what a plant (particularly the main host, nicotiana tabacum) looks like when it is infected with tobacco rattle virus. Not only is this the only way for plant pathologists to "see" the viral infection without very expensive microscopes, but such symptoms are often necessary to indicate to growers that there is any infection in the first place. Words alone cannot convey the complex mottling that occurs in infected leaves and to see actual examples is to be prepared to better diagnose the disease.
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1)	There are no free images of a TRV-infected plant; if I can eventually acquire an infected tobacco plant from my professor I will certainly consider taking a new photo myself and uploading that to replace this one.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3)	One article only. Just meant to show crucial symptoms since signs are microscopic.
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2)	This photo was lent by Dr. Bem to the database of Descriptions of PLant Viruses for educational purposes; the photo was likely from a research publication and as it is not showing anything trademarked or novel but a mere representation of a common plant disease, its reproduction on Wikipedia will not harm the photo's reputation or value, nor that of its owner's estate.
