Summary

Description

Thurles Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland

English: Statue of Archbishop Patrick Leahy in front of his cathedral, executed in Sicilian marble. The statue was created by Professor Pietro Lazzerini at Carrara, Italy. The statue was vandalized in the night from 26th to 27th June 2019 when the head has been “knocked off violently” and removed. The head has since then not been found nor returned despite multiple appeals by Archbishop O'Reilly. (See the articles from the Irish Times: Gardaí appeal for information after statue of Thurles archbishop decapitated (28 June 2019) and Renewed appeal made for recovery of head of Archbishop statue (1 December 2019).)
