Summary

Description
English: Thomas Rennell was born in Winchester and educated at Eton. A renowned theologian who contributed to English theology and philosophy at the highest level. He was for several years examing chaplain to Bishop John Fisher and in 1823 he was appointed Master of St. Nicholas Hospital, Salisbury. In 1823 he married but one year later died of a fever in Winchester where he is buried and has a memorial.
The Latin text reads literally:
"He was Vicar of the Parish of Kensington and to the benefice of this church, this marble was placed by the piety of his friends.
Born 1787. Died 1824.
In him was a perceptive and subtle intellect, an elegant learning and a deep sense of literature, a more refined holy integrity of manners and an endearing delight in everyday life. The same as the loving shepherd of his flock and the beloved of the Anglican church, he asserts energetically that whatever he may have drawn from his wit or literature he will contribute to the Christian cause and the true religion. His life, as well as his writings, would illustrate his untimely death, and he left a heavy desire for all his good friends"
