Summary

Description
English: The remains of Tollesbury Pier. The pier at Tollesbury was built in the hopes of starting a yachting centre to rival that at Burnham-on-Crouch and even a terminal for a continental ferry service. An extension to the Kelvedon & Tollesbury Light Railway was opened in 1907 - its station, at the landward end of the pier, consisted of an old coach body and a red brick hut - but closed in 1921. The pier itself, once 1770 feet long, was breached as a security precaution during World War II. The base of its supports are only visible at low tide.
