  • Inscribed on verso: About 3 p.m. the 8th Vermont took the double quick and being out of cartridges charged with the bayonet into the woods. The rest of the line followed and the position was carried. /Battle of Winchester Sept. 19th. Woods Oak, Maple & other dicidious [sic] trees /a few pines and cedars/ much under brush /1864.
