A CORNER IN THE) I^IBRARY—WOMANS BUII^DING. ing was decorated by Mrs. Dora Wheeler Keith, the centralgroup consisting of two male figures and one female figure,representing Science, Romance and Imagination. The four cor-ner paintings illustrate four departments of literature, while the WOMANS DEPARTMENT. 449 whole design is connected by a band of small winged cupids andcherubs, twining garlanded wreaths of fiowers with the floweringdraperies. PART OF FRENCH EXHIBIT. women. On each side of the doorways are canvas panels, 5 by 9feet, bearing figures representing the occupations of women. Many foreign countries are represented in this building, whilewomens industries are exploited in full. In the southwest cornerof the first floor is the French exhibit, which contains much of in-terest, and adjoining it are the displays of Mexico and Italy. Ger-many is in the southeast corner, and near is the display of Ceylon.The same curiously carved pillars of beautiful wood are seen herewhich characterize the exhibit of this island In other departments.Spain occupies a prominent place in the south end of the building,29 450 womans department. with a staff pavilion of Moorish design. In the collection is thesword of Her Majesty Isabella of Spain, the patron of Columbus.It has been preserved in the Royal Armory at Madrid, and, togetherwith a portrait of Isabella and some jewels which belong to her,occupies the place of honor in the Spanish
