ONE OF THE NEW ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES FOR THE NEW YORK CENTRAL& HUDSON RIVER RAILROAD some of the preliminary runs made to test the bearings andrunning qualities of the locomotive: Although these recordswill be superseded by careful tests made on the full length oftrack, bonded and with sufficient feeders supplied to minimizethe drop, they indicate in a general way what may be expected 336 tons, and a four-car train weighing 170 tons, both exclusiveof locomotive. The total weight of train, including locomotiveand passengers, was 431 tons and 265 tons for the eight-carand four-car trains respectively. Two sets of curves are shown withrunning tests reaching as high amaximum speed as possible with thelength of track available, and two setsof starting tests showing the morerapid rate of acceleration possiblewith the higher maintained voltageavailable near the sub-station. Themaximum speeds reached were 63m.p.h. with an eight-car train, and72 m.p.h. with a four-car train. Itwill be noted
