and 10 days.He was a son of Samuel Shapleigh, anative of Eliot, who came to Lebanonin 1804, and of the 9th generation fromAlexander Shapleigh, who came to thiscountry in 1635. n. j. h. Washburn, Mrs. Mary Maud, in Minne-apolis, Min., June 30, 1873. She wasthe daughter of Col. Ebenezer and Mrs.Lucy (Dudley) Webster, and was bornJuly 24, 1824, in Orono, Me., where shewas married Oct. 24, 1841, to IsraelWashburn, Jr., since a member of con-gress and governor of Maine, and nowcollector of customs for the district ofPortland, Me. She was a lineal de-scendant of Gov. Thomas and Gov.Joseph Dudley (Register, x. 239). Shewas a woman of rare grace and cheerful-ness. In the varied spheres of duty towhich she was called, she ably fulfilledthe requirements of her station. h. c. l. Note.—The writer of the obituary of Samuel Burnham, in the Register for January, issatisfied that the statement that Mr. Burnham edited the works of Charles Sumner iserroneous. A fuller explanation will appear in July.
