English: The General's Room, Larmer Tree Gardens The General's Room was built in 1899 and it is now licensed for civil marriages. General Augustus Lane Fox inherited the Rushmore Estate in 1880 and a condition of the Will was that he should change his name to Pitt Rivers. On inheriting Rushmore, General Pitt Rivers set about creating the Larmer Tree Pleasure Grounds and, surrounding the main lawn, he constructed a variety of buildings intended to enlighten and educate his estate workers and visitors.
