I've already described what this area used to be and look like, so I'll refrain from repeating myself. But anyone of a certain age will always see the ghosts of the stores, restaurants, movie theaters and banks that used to radiate out in all four directions from this intersection. For those who think its present incarnation is "progress", you can't buy a TV or a pair of socks, watch a first-run movie or deposit your paycheck at Kennedy-King College or Whole Foods. You can eat a restaurant meal, but Sikia (Washburne's training eatery at Kennedy-King College) has very limited hours. And that vacant lot on the southwest corner is prime real estate, which needs to be built on, and I don't mean another strip mall. |
