Summary

Description
English: The Centre of England. Morton: the centre of England!

This sign is by the side of 372532 on the eastern edge of the village. See also this photograph by Nikki Mahadevan 288662.

Of course, Morton is just one of many claimants (including Meriden in the West Midlands) to this title and there is no indication as to the reasoning behind this claim.

The BBC considers the centre to be in a paddock at Lindley Hall Farm: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2323451.stm The Government Office for the East Midlands thinks Northamptonshire is near it: http://www.go-em.gov.uk/geographical.php?LA=34&x=0&county=northants&y= Leeds would like to place a claim too: http://www.agi.org.uk/pooled/articles/BF_NEWSART/view.asp?Q=BF_NEWSART_284568 So would Higham-on-the-Hill in Leicestershire: http://www.leicestershirevillages.com/highamonthehill/14833.html Then there's this group of five Anglican rural parishes: http://www.beneficeofbamf.f9.co.uk/ Arbor Low in Derbyshire wants in on the act: http://www.rosbriagha.org/magical_journeys/Callanish.html And also Leamington Spa, Warwickshire - see 27563

And then there is Church Flatts Farm, Coton in the Elms, also in Derbyshire, which would like to be thought of as the furthest place in England from the sea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coton_in_the_Elms
