English: I was commissioned by Derby Museum and Art Gallery to create a new painting inspired by the work of 18th Century artist Joseph Wright of Derby to coincide with the opening of their newly refurbished Wright gallery and as part of the Wright festival.
This piece was directly inspired by Wright's painting, 'The Captive' first exhibited in 1778. Both paintings are now part of the Museum's permanent collection and are hung within sight of each other.
Wright borrowed the model's pose from Michelangelo's 'Adam', and in the same spirit of grand art-thievery I used the same languid pose again for my model, champion Bboy Robby Graham, languishing captive in front of his Television.
