ficulty in getting a good teamto represent Gloucestershire in the early part ofthe season, and, though Woof bowled admirably,our bowling was the source of our weakness. I remember the match against Kent, notonly because I made 100 in each innings, butbecause my brother E. M. and I scored 127,before we were parted. E. M. had a very narrowescape early in his innings. He gave a very easychance—in fact, it was two chances in one, as,after skying the ball to short slip, he ran downthe wickets. The catch was missed, but by thistime E. M. was down at my end, I, thinking hewas sure to be caught, having kept in my ground.The captain and the other fieldsmen shouted toshort-slip to throw the ball in and run E. M. out,but the fieldsman was flustered at missing thecatch, and threw the ball to the wrong end, withthe result that E. M., who was very nimble ingetting across the wicket, got back to his ground,and showed his appreciation of the blunder byknocking the bowling about for some time. It is
