Summary

Description
English: Test rig for naval mines designed by Karl Schilder and Pavel Schilling. As held in St Petersburg on March 21, 1834. Legend: A - wooden target hut filled with ice blocks B, placed on 1 archin thick ice D, with layers of logs and ice C in between. The whole stack imitates the strength of a wooden frigate of the period. Sea bottom E is 13 feet below ice D. F and G are test charges of 80 and 120 pounds, one in a steel can and another in a wooden barrel, fired with Schilling's electric fuzes H.
