Summary

Description

Note on back reading: "On Saturday 3 huge casks of tobacco were thrown into the Liffey. Yesterday (Sunday) a Military 3 ton lorry endeavored to salve the casks on shore but sunk in the mud. After efforts to try and save the lorry a "Whippet Tank" was dispatched to the rescue."

With thanks to [/photos/8468254@N02/ derangedlemur] and [/photos/20727502@N00/ guliolopez] for the extra info on the events before and surrounding this image, we know that this was taken close to the Liffey's South Wall at Ringsend in the latter months of the Irish War of Independence.
