Description
English: Studies of HMS 'Tartar' and the submarine 'G11', with other sketches
A sheet of studies inscribed 'G.11', 'TARTAR', 'photograph 6.30 Wednesday', by the artist. The main unfinished drawing is of the 'Tribal' (F) class destroyer 'Tartar' in 1914, with her class letter painted on the hull. She was built by Thornycroft at Woolston, launched on 25 June 1907, completed in April 1908 and broken up at Hayle from May 1921. The submarine 'G11', shown above, was built by Vickers at Barrow, launched on 22 February 1916 and completed on 13 May 1916. She was wrecked off Howick, near Craster, on 22 November 1918. This is a fair depiction of her. The sketch on the right is of a pair of periscope standards above the conning tower of a submarine. That on the left shows three men in a rowing boat.
