Summary

Description
English: Administrative areas of the Kingdom of Anuradhapura. Rajarata was the personal domain of the King. It was further divided in to four districts (Desa): Dakkina, Pachhima, Uttara and Pacina Desa. District rulers were appointed bu the king and were the chief adminstrative, revenue and judicial officers in the area. It became customary to appoint the heir to the throne as ruler of the Dakkina Desa and as he was called Mahaya or Mapa, Dakkina Desa came to be called the Mayarata.
