Summary

Description
English: Mid-shot of cultivated specimen of the bulbous species Strumaria chaplinii (Amaryllidaceae) flowering in the Davies Alpine House, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Delicate, starry-flowered species similar to S. discifera (also cultivated in the Davies Alpine House). Not an easy plant to photograph well against a background featuring predominantly beige gravel. Would be shown to much better advantage if a single inflorescence were to be photographed against a plain, black background.

Some filters applied to improve contrast between flowers and gravel bed background.

In the wild, in their native South Africa, Strumaria species are brought into flower by the advent of the Autumn rains.
