Legend:

  • Two circles - lieutenant colonel
  • One circle - major
  • 3 vertical lines - captain or other company-level
  • 2 lines - lieutenant or higher (can be platoon or company-level)
  • 1 line - platoon level (can be either second lieutenant or lieutenant)
  • 2 arrows and circle - warrant officer
  • 1 arrow - staff sergeant
  • 3 horizontal lines - NCO (qualified sergeant or higher), as defined in the orders. In practice, this is often overlooked and any soldier may be given the positions in question.
