Summary
[edit]A photo of the mine casemate at Fort Strong on Long Island, Boston Harbor, taken in 2010, looks ENE. The red-painted plywood sheets have been applied to keep intruders out of the interior of the casemate, which used to house the generator and batteries that powered the mine fields controlled from here, the electrical panels used to monitor and fire the mines, and the sleeping quarters for the soldiers who manned the casemate. The casemate was made bomb- and gas-proof for WW2.
