Summary

Description

An image from "NASA-GSFC, data from NOAA GOES" of a weather pattern which resulted in a storm in southern Colorado on December 1, 2007 captured from http://goes.gsfc.nasa.gov/goescolor/goeswest/pacific2/movie_sml/latest.mov using QuickTime. This version has been converted to a JPEG image. It is in the public domain as a product of the United States government. It illustrates the results of penetration of a cold front from the northern Pacific into the subtropical zone west of Mexico. This combined with subtropical moisture which was pumped northward into the southwestern United States producing heavy snow at higher elevations and rain at lower elevations. The storm made national news as it moved on into the Midwest and New England.[1][2]
