DescriptionSteel Bridge lift span raised - view from roadway (2012).jpg
Roadway view of the Steel Bridge, in Portland, Oregon, with its vertical-lift span raised for a ship. This view is from the west deck, looking northeast towards the Lloyd District. At right is one of the two glass spires of the Oregon Convention Center. The lift span was in the process of being raised when the photo was taken and was not yet fully raised. When raised to the maximum height, the concrete counterweight visible at the top of this view will be all the way down to the level of the roadway. However, many ships that need the Steel Bridge to open are not tall enough to require the lift span to be raised to the maximum height.
