English: John 'Plumper' Hoolan, ca. 1902. Possibly at Ipswich. Born at Tipperary, Ireland in 1842, son of James and Margaret (nee Kennedy). Married Ellen Lawler in 1871 at Kings County, Ireland, they had 2 sons and 2 daughters. Carpenter, miner, newspaper proprietor and politician. Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Burke 9 August 1890 - 17 May 1894 and 4 April 1896 - 18 March 1899. (Description supplied with photograph.).
