Summary

Description
English: MV Llangibby Castle The ship weighed 11, 951 tons. At the outbreak of World War Two the 'Llangibby Castle' was taken over for war service. In 1942 it left England with orders to join a large convoy bound for Singapore. On the fourth day, in heavy seas, the ship was struck by a torpedo which smashed the stern and left it rudderless. As the engine and propellers were undamaged, Captain R. F. Bayer made for a port that was 700 miles away. (Description supplied with photograph).
