English: A comparison GC contents and recombination rates between stable and variable gene deserts separated by a coding gene. The general ratios displayed are independent of each other; the exact values do not reflect the scales.
1) Recombination rates are not synonymous to conservation rates: while the former describes apparent effects of recombination, the latter describes the activity of preserving genes.
2) Due to the presence of stable gene deserts, the recombination rates in neighboring coding genes are also decreased. Several of these stable gene deserts may cluster in pairs around essential coding genes to form long sytenic loci that are inherited together.
