Summary

Description
English: St Teresa and St Nicholas Left-hand lights of a stained glass window by F.C. Eden in Little St Mary's Church, placed in memory of Mary Hamblin Clay (25.12.1860-11.06.1929), a "beloved mother" according to the Latin inscription, by her sons and daughters. Teresa of Avila, Spanish mystic, is shown with an angel holding an arrow and heart and carries a scroll from the Miserere (Psalm 50-51, v.17): "Cor contritum et humiliatum Deus non despicies - A broken and contrite heart, O God, shalt thou not despise" - her last words. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra and the original of Santa Claus (Mary Clay was born on Christmas Day!), wears the episcopal mitre and carries a crozier. His quotation is a reference to Moses from Ecclesiasticus: " Dilectus Deo et hominibus cuius memoria in benedictione est - Beloved of God and men, whose memory is blessed".
