The standing wall on this site incorporates the remnants of the church built around 900AD by ?hel? daughter of Alfred the Great. St Oswald�s became an Augustinian Priory in 1152. The priory was dissolved in 1537 but the site was still used as a small church until 1656 when it was pulled down except for this wall which still survives.
