Summary

Description
English: St Michael's Church, Kirkby Thore The church is Grade II* listed, and was built in the 12C with later additions. The west tower has stepped buttresses and bell-openings in the Decorated style, as are the chancel and aisle windows. The embattled parapet has a 17C gabled bellcote on the east side. There is a north window set in a Norman arch. The moulded octagonal font was provided in 1688 by Thomas Machell, the rector, whose coat of arms is carved on one side. In the chancel the Wharton coat-of-arms is set into the wall. There is a blocked 14C priests' door to the right of the 19C vestry.
