Summary

Description
English: St Mary's church - west window The west window, depicting Faith, Charity and Hope, was designed by Mrs Matthew Nelson in memory of her husband. The impressive tower of St Mary's church > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833018- https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833030 is attached to the rest of the building by a walkway > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833026 - due to its state of disrepair the original church was destroyed and a new nave and chancel almost completely rebuilt during the 18th century. The roof line of the former south aisle and the end of the aisle wall are visible on the east wall of the tower > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833023. Both font > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833038 and pulpit > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833042 are Victorian. Older survivals are the monument to Richard Stone and his wife, d. 1607 at the age of 87 - the plaque mounted on the wall below states in Latin and in English that they were married for 64 years and 3 months, had 7 sons and 6 daughters and 72 grandchildren > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833045 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833047. A wall-mounted brass to Henry Nottingham and his wife which dates from 1413 > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/833048. Originally their tomb was located in a chapel at the east end of a south aisle but since this aisle is now demolished their grave is now in the churchyard; its exact position is not known. The church is open every day. For more information see: http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/holme/holme.htm
