Balscaddan, also 'Balscadden', translates as 'the town of the herrings'. The herrings are said to have been brought here from Newhaven on the coast <a href="https://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/O1965">O1965</a>. St. Mary's R.C. church was built in 1819. |
