DescriptionSt. Lawrence RC Church, Buffalo, New York - 20200531.jpg
English: St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 1520 East Delavan Avenue at Wright Avenue, Buffalo, New York, May 2020. The congregation traces its history to 1914, when the Far East Side parish of St. Gerard established a mission church to better serve parishioners in the outer precincts of the Italian-American community it serves, which was steadily expanding eastward toward the city line. St. Lawrence became a parish in its own right in 1929; its original church was a small wood-frame building designed by architect Karl Schmill which was expanded in 1930 and again in 1941 before succumbing to fire in 1960. The current church, erected the year after the fire, is a Modernist-style edifice designed by architect Thomas Justin Imbs, the most interesting feature of which is the stained glass above the deeply recessed entrance, arranged in a simple geometric pattern around a diamond-shaped window.
