English: In 1864 Daniel Rowntree Somerset purchased the land and built his “U“ shaped house with granite external walls and shingle roof and it is he who named the Estate St John’s Wood. He resided there for four years, leaving after the death of his wife. The next occupier was George Rogers Harding, initially a young Barrister who became a prominent Judge. Harding then carried out major extensions to the residence, out-houses and yards. This is a photo of the Residence with the alterations in 1880s. The dwelling on the right is known as the "Cedar House", which was moved in 1926 to an adjacent site and shortly afterwards accidentally burnt down.
